Throughout the year SOC-F organizes and oversees a number of fund-raising events, including dinners, speaking engagements, and our main event of the year: the SOC-F Annual Sporting Clays Invitational.
In 2017, this one-of-a kind event was held in May at beautiful Burge Plantation, outside of Mansville, Georgia. Over 23 supporters and industry sponsors were joined by 137 active and retired members of the U.S. SOF community and their partners. After a round on Burge’s excellent sporting clays course, we were treated to an outstanding dinner overseen by Atlanta celebrity chef Ken Rathbun. During the dinner we heard heart-felt remarks from some of our SOF guests-of-honor, which left not a dry eye in the house. Through the generosity of SOC-F supporters and sponsors, we were able to hold both a silent and a very entertaining live auction of an amazing number and variety of items. The proceeds, along with entrance fees and other donations, raised an impressive amount of funds, all of which, except for very limited direct costs of the event, went to provide medical, financial, and other support to SOF families in ways that are often not met through other sources (what we call the “gaps”).
